Biography

Bill Moretti is one of the most respected teachers in golf, combining technical knowledge with a clear, encouraging style that has shaped players at every level. Bill is a Class A PGA Professional and has been teaching golf professionally since 1979. He has spent more than four decades dedicated to instruction, building a career defined by excellence and passion for helping golfers reach their potential.

Based in Austin, Texas, Moretti has been recognized in Golf Magazine’s Top 100 Teachers in America and Golf Digest’s Best Teachers in State rankings. His approach blends fundamentals with modern teaching tools, giving his students both the foundation and confidence to succeed.

Moretti’s students include PGA TOUR winners, collegiate players, and competitive amateurs, and he is equally known for his work with beginners and juniors. He believes every golfer can improve with the right guidance and a tailored plan.

A mentor to other teaching professionals, Moretti has contributed to PGA education programs and coaching seminars, earning respect from peers as well as students.

Throughout his career, Bill Moretti has remained committed to a simple mission: to inspire a lifelong love of the game through solid instruction, professionalism, and genuine investment in each student’s success.

Teaching:

  • Lockhaven CC 1979 - 1982
  • Andy Bean - David Leadbetter Golf Studio (1983 – 1986)
  • Academy of Golf (1986 to present)
  • Austin Golf Club (2006 - to present)
  • Taught over 1300 three-day schools and more than 36,000 individual lessons.
  • Worked with Westlake, Lake Travis and Vandergrift High Schools. Between 2004 to 2014, won six state championships combined
  • More than 100 high school players taught by Moretti have received golf scholarships
  • Since 2009, focused on individual lessons and junior golfers
    • 50% of lesson time is donated
  • 600 clinics and presentations to corporate groups, country clubs, junior golf, teacher clinics and Wounded Warriors.
  • Notable tour players taught on a regular basis. Fred Funk, JL Lewis, Tom Purtzer, Joe Ogilvie, Harrison Frazar, Greg Kraft, Russ Cochran.
  • Other notables: Presidents Bush and Trump, Jack Nicholson.

Awards:

  • Top 100 Golf Magazine teacher since its inception
  • STPGA Teacher of the Year and Chapter Teacher of the Year
    • Nominated numerous additional times and has declined to give fellow professionals recognition

Mentoring:

  • Trained dozens teaching professionals
    • Three named PGA Of America Teachers of the Year
    • Six have won section Teacher of the Year awards
    • Six have been named Top 100 Golf Magazine instructors
  • Written seven golf books, one published
  • Written five teaching manuals and has over 1000 articles on file, 50 of which have been published in golf publications

Player:

  • Won seven college events and two mini tour events
  • Qualified and played in three USGA Public Links and qualified locally for three U.S. Open Championships
