Colt Knost has built a distinctive career in golf as an amateur champion, PGA TOUR professional, broadcaster, and media personality. A native of Pilot Point, Texas, Knost first made his mark in the state as the 2003 Class 3A High School State Champion at Pilot Point High School, beginning a competitive journey that would take him to the highest levels of the game.
At Southern Methodist University, Knost became one of the most accomplished players in school history. He earned third team All-American honors and won seven collegiate events, establishing himself as one of the top amateur players in the country. His remarkable 2007 season placed him among the elite in amateur golf. That year, Knost won both the U.S. Amateur Championship and the U.S. Public Links Championship, helped lead the United States to victory in the Walker Cup, and earned the McCormack Medal as the No. 1-ranked amateur in the world.
Knost went on to play professionally, competing on the PGA TOUR and Korn Ferry Tour. Known for his personality, competitive spirit, and deep understanding of the game, he successfully transitioned into broadcasting following his playing career. Today, he is a respected voice on CBS Sports golf coverage and has expanded his reach through podcasting, where his insight, humor, and relationships across the game have made him one of golf’s most recognizable media personalities.
From his Texas high school championship to national amateur titles, professional golf, and a prominent role in golf media, Colt Knost represents Texas golf with talent, authenticity, and a lasting connection to the game.

In 2007, Colt Knost joined Bobby Jones in 1930 and Jay Sigel in 1983 as the only players to capture three USGA gold medals in a single year. Knost won the U.S. Amateur Public Links and the U.S. Amateur before helping the United States secure the Walker Cup, completing one of the most remarkable seasons in amateur golf history
Royal Oaks Country Club has been an important part of Colt Knost’s golf journey. Under the guidance of longtime instructor Randy Smith, Colt developed his game in an environment that has also included players such as Justin Leonard, D.A. Weibring, and Scottie Scheffler. For Colt, Royal Oaks is a special place, both for the quality of golf and for the relationships and mentorship that helped shape his career.
After retiring from professional golf, Colt Knost transitioned seamlessly into broadcasting, launching a successful media career with CBS Sports. He first joined CBS in 2019 as a part-time on-course reporter for select PGA Tour events, quickly earning praise for his insightful analysis, humor, and player relationships. Following his retirement from competitive golf in 2020, Knost became a full-time member of the CBS golf broadcast team in 2021, establishing himself as one of the network's most recognizable on-course voices. His growing influence in golf media also includes co-hosting SiriusXM's Gravy and the Sleeze and the popular Subpar podcast.
Colt earned the nickname “Big Gravy” from PGA TOUR professional and fellow Texas Golf Hall of Fame member Steve Elkington through exchanges on Twitter. Colt did not like the nickname at first, but it stuck, and he eventually embraced it. Drew Stoltz, a longtime friend of Colt, has long gone by “The Sleeze” or “Sleaze.” When they started their SiriusXM PGA TOUR Radio show, they combined the two nicknames into Gravy and the Sleeze. Their show continues to gain popularity, and they are having a ball with it, along with their podcast SubPar.
